He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God. Micah 6:8
For the past several weeks I’ve been praying for and about many things . . . but one rather specific prayer I’ve had is for my eyes to be open to notice when He shows up on my journey. My prayer has been to recognize Him not only in the sunrise and starry nights, but in the less majestic moments of life. And so He did — subtle in most every way and yet as creative as the rainbow.
During my son’s practices at the track it’s not uncommon for me to take in a few fast-paced walks and experience life in each of the five lanes. Last night, however, I lost my count and felt a little like a walking version of Forest Gump. I grabbed my iPhone and decided to listen to a sermon from one of my favorite pastors while taking these “few” laps. The pocket in front of my coat worked perfect, positioning the speakers to hear it perfectly since I had no earphones.
I had made a number of laps already when suddenly something caught my eye. It appeared I was being followed. Whoever it was, I couldn’t hear them for the sermon and last I knew, I was the only one on the track. So I quickly turned my head to see what had drawn my eye. It was my shadow from the field lights and as my eyes turned back I noticed another, and then another. Three shadows of me! And truthfully, they didn’t really look like me.
My mind raced with joy and peace, mixed with a heartfelt warmth of knowing I was not alone on this track at all. While these shadows were, in fact, shadows of myself cast to the ground by a trio of field lights, they represented the truth of something far more important to me. An answer to prayer! God’s light shone upon me last night and reminded me that I’m never alone, wherever I go. That the Father, the Son and the Spirit walk with me!
He showed up and shone His face to me! As I mentioned earlier, I can’t tell you how many laps I made that night, but truly I lost count. Those shadows never caught my eye another time. He had something to show me and I noticed!
Thank you Lord Jesus for answering my prayer and for getting my attention. May I continue to lend my hearts ear to you and walk each step of my day knowing that you are in them!
Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. Galatians 5:25
